Rebranding, Brand Identity

The Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) in Costa Mesa, California, is rebranded to emphasize openness and accessibility. The new logo draws from the building’s square architecture and fluid exhibition spaces, while the warm color palette reflects Orange County’s coastline and the museum’s inviting atmosphere. Applying a consistent grid system across posters and materials ensures visual cohesion, showing how a museum’s identity can extend beyond its logo into a unified, immersive experience.
LOGOThe logo was inspired by the square shape of the building and the smooth flow of the exhibition spaces. It shows both structure and movement, just like the museum itself. The colors came from Orange County’s waves, warm temperature, and the soft tones inside the museum. I make the design feel warm, bright, and inviting. I used the same grid system from one of my posters to keep the colors and shapes in this calendar poster consistent and connected.

This is our story...
I started this poster series with a simple question: How can a museum feel open enough for anyone to step inside—visually, emotionally, instinctively?

I reduced the identity of OCMA into a set of modular shapes, built from basic curves and circles. These shapes act like threshold frames that invite the viewer into each artwork without overwhelming it.
The white forms represent an open space, a place where the viewer stands. They are incomplete on purpose; the story is only finished when the artwork and the audience meet. Each poster reconfigures the same module but creates a different rhythm depending on the artwork behind it. The tension between the structured shapes and the organic artwork reveals a new way of seeing.

This is our story, one that belongs not only to the museum, but to anyone who chooses to look.
